Paragliding

The Paragliding here is awesome.

I have been flying here in the Alps for four years now, and have had the most amazing and unforgettable flying experiences. Bozel (6 mins away) has a local paraglider club, offering very cheap minibus transfers/lifts to the take off points in Courchevel (off ski runs etc) with summer ski lift returns up the mountain at Le Praz (landing area next to the lift), and by minibus to the top of Mont Jovet (back of La Plagne)….and just around the corner (a 30-45 mins drive) in the Tarataise valley from La Plagne, Vallandry and Les Arcs (funicular/ski lift access in summer) and from the top of the Versant Du Soleil on the sunny side of the valley. Annecy is 90 minutes away, and Chamonix just under two hours drive – amazing places. The sites in Annecy provide the opportunity to fly deep into the Bauges mountains, and beyond. In Chamonix, I have flown from the Glacier up towards Argentiere – an amazing and unforgetable experience.

The Les Arcs site allows for multiple easy flights on weak/non thermic days, as the funincular train runs every 30 mins in July/August, and there is a landing strip (and I do mean strip!) right behind it…..so a pilot can get a 25-30 min flight every hour, even on weak days. There is a massive and easy landing field further down the valley, used also for landing from the Vallandry take off sites (2), where the Tarantaise paraglider club is based….a great and friendly bunch of pilots, and I am a member !

As mentioned above the flying sites in Annecy and Chamonix are within a 90-120 drive from the chalet. Pilots wishing to stay in those areas overnight or for a few days can make use of my very comfotable touring caravan.

Other known flying sites:- St Hilaire, the Col de Bisanne, La Seleve, Tignes & Val D'Isere
